Scottish FA East Region Girls/ Womens Newsletter

October 2011

Welcome to the October edition of the girls/ womens newsletter for the East

Region. I hope this finds you well and we would like to continue to highlight some of

the excellent work that is going on across the East Region, as well as some of the up

and coming opportunities for your club, players, volunteers and coaches.

Sam Milne

Scottish FA East Girls/ Womens Club Development Officer.

National Activity

October was a busy month on the International Calendar with the Womens A Squad

starting off their campaign in the UEFA Womens Euro 2013 Qualifiers.

Scotland women started their Euro 2013 qualifying campaign with a convincing

victory away to Israel, thanks to a brace from Kim Little and individual strikes from

Jane Ross, Jennifer Beattie, Hayley Lauder and an own goal.

In their first home game of the campaign, two

goals by strike duo, Jennifer Beattie and Jane Ross

secured a point against Wales at Tynecastle on

Thursday 27th October. Scotland womens next

Euro qualifying match is away to group

leaders France on the 31st of March before facing

the Republic of Ireland at Tynecastle on the 5th of

April 2012.

Jane Ross makes it 1-1

Thank you to all clubs and schools from the East Region who made the trip down to

Edinburgh. Over 200 players, parents and volunteers were in attendance at

Tynecastle with players from Bayside GFC and Dunfermline GFC lucky enough to be

player escorts on the night for the two teams. See pictures below of the players

enjoying their experience.

WU17 Narrowly Miss out in Austria

Scotland U17s came back from two goals down to draw with Iceland in the final

game of the first qualifying round of the WU17 Euro Qualifiers.

Iceland top the group while, despite a three-game unbeaten campaign, Scotland

narrowly miss out on qualifying for the second round as one of the four best second

placed teams. Well Done to Lucy Graham (Dunfermline GFC), Abbi Grant (Rangers

LFC) and Caroline Weir (Hibernian LFC) on their inclusion in the qualifiers.

WU15 Face Germany

Congratulations to Regan Gray (Letham GFC)

for her inclusion in the womens U15 squad

which travelled out to Germany this week for

a Double Header Challenge Match. Also a big

congratulations to Rebecca Foote (Letham

GFC), Stacey McFadyen (Celtic Tayside GFC),

Katie Hinchcliffe and Amy Gallacher (DUSC)

who narrowly missed out on an inclusion in

the squad but gave a great account of

themselves at the education camps.

UEFA Womens Champions League

Scottish Champions Glasgow City FC headed out to

Germany on Monday (31st October) to take on

German Champions Turbine Potsdam in the last 16 of

the UEFA Womens Champions League.

Unfortunately, last night, an excellent German side

outclassed the Scottish champions 10-0 in the first

leg. The return leg will be played on Thursday 10th

November at Petershill Park, Glasgow, kick off 18:05.

Tickets are priced £5 adults, £2 kids.

Dundee Girls Football League (Schools)

The DGFL has been rapidly expanding since its

origin in the 2009/10 season. Starting off in

2009 with only 9 teams, through the hard

work of Active Schools, Co-Coordinator

Gareth Dailly, the DGFL has expanded to 25

teams with well over 400 female players

playing at the U11 age group.

In 2011, the DGFL have also recruited 11 new

referees from Dundee College, who have already been through a DGFL training

programme, the Scottish FA Childrens Level 1 & 2 and will complete a referee

qualification in 2012.

The Dundee Partnership Fund has again

been instrumental to the DGFLs on-going

success and donated a further £8,800 in

total to the project this year!! That will

cover the costs of all transport for away

games as well as help schools purchase

some much needed equipment. Therefore,

EVERY player in the DGFL will now have

their own ball at training and this will help

to make training more fun and accelerate

the youngsters technical development.

In 2012, Active Schools, Dundee City Council Sports Development and the Scottish FA

East Region will be working together to make sure these girls play club football to

ensure life long participation.

Well done to Gareth Dailly on such a pro active approach to girls football in Dundee.

Many thanks and as always please contact me on tel: 07841 569805 or email

sam.milne@scottishfa.co.uk if you have any queries or questions on any of the

above.

Sam Milne

Scottish FA East Girls/ Womens Football Club Development Officer.

Dear Parent/Team Member

As you may be aware, the costs of running Monifieth Ladies Football Club are significant. The

committee is constantly looking at new and innovative ways to raise additional funds to ensure the

teams are kitted out in the best possible gear, have transport for matches, can pay for pitches, training

facilities and social events – all for the sporting and personal development of the girls/ladies.

The next fundraiser is a Ceilidh night scheduled for Saturday 24th April 2010 at the Woodlands Hotel,

Broughty Ferry. The band for the evening is one of Scotland’s finest Ceilidh band’s “The Gallivanters”

who do Ceilidh with a Beatles twist !

Tickets are very reasonably priced at £20 per ticket or £200 per table of 10. The format of the evening

will include Dancing, Soup, Stovies, a Raffle and a Silent Auction plus a few other bits and pieces thrown

in on the night. With your continued support, it promises to be a fantastic evening with all proceeds

going towards the club’s activities throughout the season. Please note this is intended to be an event

for adults / older girls. For tickets or further information, see the team managers or call:

Andy 07753 951269; Donna 07989 631758; Graham 07982 788642

PS – Raffle or Silent Auction prizes will be gratefully received

Other news (aside from the football !):

Bag Pack The fundraising bag pack at Sainsbury in December raised £1,200 of which £100 has been

donated to a local charity. Thanks to all who helped

Future Activities – The committee have entered all teams except the under 13’s (sorry – not available!)

in the Loch Lomond Youth Soccer Festival to be held at Stirling University over the weekend of 5th to 9th

of August 2010. Further details to follow from the team managers......
