Scottish FA East Region Girls/ Women’s Newsletter October 2011
Welcome to the October edition of the girls/ women’s newsletter for the East Region. I hope this finds you well and we would like to continue to highlight some of
the excellent work that is going on across the East Region, as well as some of the up
and coming opportunities for your club, players, volunteers and coaches.

National Activity
October was a busy month on the International Calendar with the Women’s A Squad starting off their campaign in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 Qualifiers. Scotland women started their Euro 2013 qualifying campaign with a convincing
victory away to Israel, thanks to a brace from Kim Little and individual strikes from
Jane Ross, Jennifer Beattie, Hayley Lauder and an own goal.
In their first home game of the campaign, two
goals by strike duo, Jennifer Beattie and Jane Ross
secured a point against Wales at Tynecastle on
Thursday 27th October. Scotland women’s next Euro qualifying match is away to group
leaders France on the 31st of March before facing
the Republic of Ireland at Tynecastle on the 5th of
April 2012.
Jane Ross makes it 1-1

Dundee Girls Football League (Schools)
The DGFL has been rapidly expanding since its
origin in the 2009/10 season. Starting off in
2009 with only 9 teams, through the hard
work of Active Schools, Co-Coordinator
Gareth Dailly, the DGFL has expanded to 25
teams with well over 400 female players
playing at the U11 age group.
In 2011, the DGFL have also recruited 11 new
referees from Dundee College, who have already been through a DGFL training
programme, the Scottish FA Children’s Level 1 & 2 and will complete a referee qualification in 2012.
The Dundee Partnership Fund has again
been instrumental to the DGFL’s on-going success and donated a further £8,800 in
total to the project this year!! That will
cover the costs of all transport for ‘away’
games as well as help schools purchase
some much needed equipment. Therefore,
EVERY player in the DGFL will now have
their own ball at training and this will help
to make training more fun and accelerate
the youngster’s technical development. In 2012, Active Schools, Dundee City Council Sports Development and the Scottish FA
East Region will be working together to make sure these girls play club football to
ensure life long participation.
Well done to Gareth Dailly on such a pro active approach to girl’s football in Dundee. Many thanks and as always please contact me on tel: 07841 569805 or email
sam.milne@scottishfa.co.uk if you have any queries or questions on any of the above.

Scottish FA East Girls/ Women’s Football Club Development Officer.

Dear Parent/Team Member
As you may be aware, the costs of running Monifieth Ladies Football Club are significant. The
committee is constantly looking at new and innovative ways to raise additional funds to ensure the
teams are kitted out in the best possible gear, have transport for matches, can pay for pitches, training
facilities and social events – all for the sporting and personal development of the girls/ladies.
The next fund‐raiser is a Ceilidh night scheduled for Saturday 24th April 2010 at the Woodlands Hotel, Broughty Ferry. The band for the evening is one of Scotland’s finest Ceilidh band’s “The Gallivanters”
who do Ceilidh with a Beatles twist !
Tickets are very reasonably priced at £20 per ticket or £200 per table of 10. The format of the evening
will include Dancing, Soup, Stovies, a Raffle and a Silent Auction plus a few other bits and pieces thrown
in on the night. With your continued support, it promises to be a fantastic evening with all proceeds going towards the club’s activities throughout the season. Please note this is intended to be an event
